Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Anti-Doping Information

Welcome to UK Anti-Doping's (UKAD) dedicated hub for athletes and athlete support personnel heading to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. UKAD has been appointed to deliver the anti-doping programme for the Games and this page provides essential anti-doping information for all Commonwealth Games Associations ahead of and during Glasgow 2026.

Before you travel: what you need to know

What is Strict Liability

Strict liability means that you are solely responsible for any banned substance you use, attempt to use, or is found in your system, regardless of how it got there or whether there was any intention to cheat – ensure you can confidently say that your performance was 100% you.

Check Your Medications and Supplements

Medications

Global DRO is a method of checking any medications you may use against the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List. Check your medications on Global DRO and remember to save results of any Global DRO searches that you do! If your medication is prohibited in sport, you will need to apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (more information on this in the next drop down). Global DRO logo

Supplements

When it comes to supplements, it is important that you Assess the Need, Assess the Risk and Assess the Consequences (ANARAC) of using them. Risk minimisation programmes such as Informed Sport can help you check supplements that have been batch tested.

Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs)

General TUE information

A Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) allows athletes to use a medication that would otherwise be prohibited under anti-doping rules. If your medication contains a prohibited substance, you may need to apply for one.

If you already have a valid TUE granted by your National Anti-Doping Organisation or International Federation, Commonwealth Sport (CS) may automatically recognise it as valid for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, as long as it is available on the Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS).

If you need to use a prohibited substance or method during the 2026 Commonwealth Games and do not already have a TUE, you must apply to the TUE Committee as soon as possible, and before using or possessing the substance or method in question.

If the substance is only prohibited in-competition, you must apply at least 30 days before the Games begin, unless you are in an emergency or exceptional situation.

More information on TUEs can be found on the Commonwealth Sport anti-doping webpage.

TUE advice for Home Nation athletes (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales)

If you are representing a Home Nation team at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and need a TUE, you should apply to UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) as soon as your selection is confirmed. When completing your application, make clear that you are applying specifically for a 2026 Commonwealth Games TUE.

Once your application has been reviewed, you will be sent the decision and it will be uploaded to ADAMS. CS will automatically recognise any TUE granted by UKAD or your International Federation as valid for the Games. If necessary, CS will be given access to the application form and medical evidence within ADAMS if the TUE is granted.

If your existing TUE is due to expire in the weeks before or during the Games, contact UKAD or your International Federation to request an extension. You should do this at least one month before your TUE expires or the Games begin, whichever comes first.

Please note there is a deadline of 19 July 2026 for submitting TUE applications to UKAD. Applications made after this date, or for treatment needed during the Games period, should be sent directly to the CS TUE Committee. Further details can be found on the Commonwealth Sport anti-doping webpage.

Know the Testing Process

Athletes may be tested at any time during the Games. Familiarise yourself with the testing process, including your rights and responsibilities, by checking out our testing process video and information.

Education and Resources

All athletes, coaches and medical personnel should complete approved clean sport anti-doping education (UKAD e-learning, a Clean Sport workshop delivered by an approved NGB Educator or UKAD National Trainer or WADA ADEL) and also attend a clean games pre-event education workshop. If you're unsure whether you've completed the right education, get in touch with your sport team lead or email education@ukad.org.uk.

Without the correct education, you will not be permitted to travel to the Games!

Protect Your Sport (Report doping)

If you think someone is cheating, you can tell us in confidence. UKAD has an anonymous reporting service called Protect Your Sport, which you can use before or during Glasgow 2026.

Advice for during the GamesClip board icon with a tick next to it

  • If you are unsure about something, speak to a member of staff from your relevant Commonwealth Games Association, they are there to help and support you.
  • Whereabouts - if an athlete is specifying their location at a Team Hotel as part of their whereabouts filing/information for the Games Period, they must include their hotel room number in their whereabouts filing/information.
  • Be vigilant with medications, massage creams, supplements and food – avoid anything unfamiliar or unlabelled.
  • Report concerns – It takes a team to protect clean sport. Help us to keep sport clean and fair for all competitors by reporting all signs of doping: Protect Your Sport
