The 2027 World Anti-Doping Code Review: How to Get Involved
UKAD is governed by the World Anti-Doping Code (the Code), a globally recognised set of rules and International Standards, managed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The Code was first approved by WADA in January 2003, during the Second World Conference on Doping in Sport. WADA has committed to ensuring the Code is a living document and subject to periodic review, listening to the feedback of athletes and stakeholders. The Code has been updated on three occasions: 2009, 2015 and 2021.
WADA has launched a consultation phase for the next update of the Code, 2027.
2027 Code Review: What’s happening?
The 2027 Code is due to come into effect from 1 January 2027. WADA has launched a two-year consultation phase which has included sharing a first draft of the 2027 Code.
The Process
The two-year consultation phase includes stakeholder consultation and circulation of multiple drafts of the proposed Code and its International Standards.
The final versions of the Code and International Standards are presented by WADA for consideration and approval at the World Conference on Doping in Sport. This will take place in November 2025 in Busan, Republic of Korea.
The new 2027 Code and International Standards will come into effect on 1 January 2027.
How can I get involved?
Stakeholders, such as UKAD and our partners in sport, have been invited directly to feedback on the first draft of the Code by 11 October 2024.
Athletes are encouraged to get involved in this process. WADA is hosting a feedback session specifically for athletes on Tuesday 16 July.
You can request the current draft of the 2027 Code and feedback directly to WADA by emailing code@wada-ama.org.
We welcome comments directly to UKAD by Friday 2 August 2024.
