UKAD’s latest testing numbers show consistency in levels of testing
- 2,094 tests were conducted between July to September 2022
- 2,076 tests were conducted between April to June 2022
- Most tested sports include football, cricket, rugby league, rugby union and athletics
UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) has released its testing report for the period of July to September 2022 (quarter two of 2022/23).
The testing report, which UKAD publishes quarterly, shows the level of testing remains consistent in the first two quarters of 2022/23. 2,094 tests were conducted in quarter two, an increase of 18 tests on the 2,076 tests conducted in quarter one. The results show that UKAD testing levels are on an upward trajectory post-pandemic.
The most tested sports in quarter two were football, cricket, rugby league, rugby union and athletics. The testing report reflects a busy schedule of sport for the UK including leading up to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Rugby League World Cup England 2021. The testing figures for quarter two do not include the additional samples collected by UKAD as part of their role as the Major Games Anti-Doping contractor at Birmingham 2022.
UKAD Deputy Director of Operations (Testing), Hamish Coffey, said: “The testing figures for quarter two are significant and provide further evidence that testing has returned to the levels of testing reported pre-pandemic.
That we have delivered a consistent level of testing for quarter two on top of our role as the Anti-Doping contractor at Birmingham 2022 is credit to our Testing Team and the skilled group of Doping Control Personnel we have available to UKAD.”
UKAD delivers a comprehensive, risk-based testing programme across more than 40 sports. The Testing Programme is a vital tool in deterring athletes from cheating, assuring confidence in clean sport and protecting the integrity of sport.
